Massive boost for Aguilas as they secure home game advantage in Semis
October 19, 2018
Davao Aguilas Bellmare FC continue their unbeaten run of 10 games headed into the knockout stages, finishing the group stages on top of the group while also securing the home game advantage to be played in Rizal Memorial Stadium this Sunday, avoiding Kaya who is playing in Iloilo.
Phil Younghusband and Kim Sung Min both scored a brace each as Davao won 4-0 in Binan Football Stadium as they send Stallion Laguna to face Kaya Iloilo in Iloilo Sports Complex.
The hosts were quick to show that they wanted the top seed in their group with more chances coming in the 2nd half but failing to convert their chances to get back in the game.
The missed opportunities proved to be brutal as Davao’s captain, Phil, was able to break the deadlock at 42 minutes when he found himself inside the penalty box unmanned to slot in his outside-of-the-foot volley to the top right corner.
It was 1-0 at the half as the temperature got lower. Both teams were clearly affected by the heat of the sun.
As the 2nd half resumed, Davao Aguilas proved to be the better side as Kim Sung Min was able to score a brace in the 71st and 85th minutes with a penalty goal from Phil in the 83rd minute to complete the 4-0 victory.
The next challenge will be the semis match this Sunday as Davao will look to keep their AFC dreams alive against a tricky JPV Marikina, who will be without the suspended goalkeeper, Nelson Gasic, due to his red card against Kaya Iloilo.
