Davao Aguilas Bellmare FC looking to secure top seed in the group going into the semi-finals
October 16, 2018
It’s the final group stage match day for Copa Paulino Alcantara this Wednesday, Oct 17, with 2 deciding matches left to be played. Group A’s final match between Davao Aguilas and Stallion Laguna at Binan Football Stadium will be an exciting match as both teams are trying to avoid flying to Iloilo to face Kaya in the semis but on the other hand in Group B’s final match between Kaya Iloilo and JPV Marikina at PFF National Training Center, only a point separates both sides and the winner will finish on top and face Stallion Laguna assuming Davao will get at least a draw against them.
“Firstly, I would like to say I am really looking forward to this game. I have noticed a new fighting spirit in the team and I am proud that I am part of this, we have been on a good run being unbeaten in our last 9 games. We can win this match, all our players are fit and ready. We will be at full strength and I believe we will have the edge over Stallion. This will be our biggest challenge of the season and we the players, the staff are ready for it.” said James Hall.
Coach Leigh added, “The Stallions game decided nothing on its own as JPV have 6 points and Kaya with seven, so either teams could win the group. We will look to win against Stallions as always and see who we face in the semi-finals. There will be a few changes to the squad as most of the squad are now fit. However, the national team players arrive back late Monday night so we may have to see how they are on Tuesday’s training. Tactically, it’s more about the quality of our final ball into the box. Last game, we gave the ball away too easily leading to Stallion counter-attacks.”
Both games are to be played at the same time simultaneously at 3pm. The match will be a crucial decider whether the Aguilas will fly to Iloilo or stay in Manila. See you there! Sukol Aguilas!
